Housing crisis in the European Union with the aim of proposing solutions for decent, sustainable and affordable housing (debate)
Madam President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, for millions of Europeans, housing is the first of the problems, the first of their debts, the first obstacle to full citizenship. The report of the Special Committee on the housing crisis in the European Union acknowledges the seriousness of the situation but unfortunately offers us an answer that does not break the market logic on which this crisis depends. Facilitating private investment, deregulating and speeding up procedures will not ensure lower-priced housing, accessible to all. For my political group, the Five Star Movement, housing is a fundamental social right. We need a much stronger role than public, cooperative and non-profit housing, real protections for tenants in need, measures against speculation and housing left empty. We need ambitious European public investments and rules that stop the financialization of the house. Commissioner, your project is not ambitious enough. You see, he's on his phone and he doesn't listen to me. But how is it that for the war you find billions of euros and for the house only two pennies? Let's get more help! This is the plan for the house with public programs. The rest is just talk and gifts to the builders.
