High time to deliver on the Single Market, providing certainty and predictability for EU businesses and quality jobs (continuation of debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, in order to have strong companies and quality work, we need a complete manufacturing industry, and the predictability of the rules is the minimum condition for our companies to be able to invest, to grow, to remain in Europe. Instead, too often we have done the opposite: excessive, often incorrect, gold-plating, which we are trying to correct today. On the one hand, we simplify with omnibuses – and this is a good thing – but on the other hand, we introduce rules that put entire sectors in crisis. I will mention some of them: the 'automotive and the wrong choices of the electric only. Now, maybe we'll correct the course, but it's a little late. We have already lost – as you said, Commissioner Séjourné, in the ITRE Committee – 200 000 jobs since the beginning of the mandate alone. Energy is obviously strategic, but who enriches the Green Deal? Basically China: all the wafers used for photovoltaics are 95% produced in China and so are the heat pumps for our homes, 96% produced in China. And ETS is a tax that only we pay. Finally, there is steel, dear Commissioner, on which, as you know, the entire supply chain must be protected.
