High time to deliver on the Single Market, providing certainty and predictability for EU businesses and quality jobs (continuation of debate)
Dear Chair, colleagues, many of you have already spoken about the serious obstacles facing our Single Market. And we know that we will not make a move until there will be good will from Member States to go in that direction, but today I would like to talk about what we can already do now, how to fight inflation that really kills individual citizens in individual Member States. We see two key culprits of this inflation, the first are greedy international retail chains, banks and telecoms that charge higher prices to countries like my Croatia, markets with lower purchasing power than in other countries. How can one product in one part of the EU be twice as expensive as in another part of the EU? And the others were the missed spending of EU funds that we provided through the recovery and resilience program, where private hotels and private polyclinics were built, swimming pools were renovated, instead of investing in strengthening the market, citizens' purchasing power and anti-inflationary measures. That is why we are going to see how we can build a better resilience to inflation on these concrete examples already now.
