European solidarity: key to securing medicine access in a shifting geopolitical era (debate)
Mr President! Commissioner! Ladies and Gentlemen! The Commission's ambitions are exemplary. The goal is clear, but the reading raises some serious questions. All in all, everything is quite theoretical and apparently not really from the pen of people who are based in the medical sector. How should the plans be implemented and implemented in a functional way if even individual Member States fail to provide their own populations with adequate medical care, so that all people have unrestricted access to medical care? But there are clear tasks for the EU. Since diseases do not know national borders, medical research must also be cross-border. Europe's dependence on pharmaceutical products from Asia must be overcome. In doing so, the EU can show its strength if we stand up to the lobbyists of the pharmaceutical giants and prepare for conflicts with the WTO. And by the way: Instead of investing in armor, you could put the money in the victory over most cancers and hostage The war also wiped off Europe's map.
