Europe's response to reduced US military deployments in Europe, particularly at its Eastern flank in the light of the latest US decisions (debate)
Madam President, The United States withdraws troops it had transferred to Europe in the wake of the Ukraine crisis. This was politically announced and therefore foreseeable. If you are worried that the US will soon abandon Europe completely, you can turn to the other side with peace of mind: Great powers tend to make their vassals tremble occasionally. The United States will certainly not give up its bridgehead to Eurasia. The real enemy of Europe is not the Russian Federation, but Islamic totalitarianism. It threatens open societies not only from the outside, but also from the inside – supported by the left-green zealots of this Parliament. The real question is not whether America will stay. The question is whether Europe will grow up. Those who preach strategic autonomy must not at the same time order their security policy maturity in Washington. It does not fit together to emancipate oneself rhetorically from the USA, but to buy practically always new weapons from them.
