Reviewing the ETS system to support European competitiveness (topical debate)
Madam President, Oh, ladies and gentlemen, it is not great that right-wing groups repeatedly propose to debate the climate and then think about it: Hm, actually we don't have much to say about that. Perhaps next time Mr. Procaccini should speaking notes Take it with you from the Eni CEO, which certainly gives him exciting. I believe that if we are standing here today talking about the climate crisis, then perhaps we should remember that we have had so many debates in this House where we have been talking about floods, about people who have already lost their lives because of the climate crisis. And then what? Then we want to soften one of the most powerful tools to combat this crisis. Then my conservative colleagues also stand here and say: Well, but there still has to be a bit of flexibility. How flexible do you want to be with our future? How flexible do you think planetary boundaries are, and whether you can hop ropes with them? That won't work. We need a strong ETS. We need proper climate protection. And we finally need a trustworthy EPP to work with.
