EU strategy in response to the ongoing Middle East crisis, its implications on energy prices and the availability of fertilizers (joint debate)
Madam President, All, but especially all with little money, feel the war against Iran in their wallets. Especially for families and for the working population, daily shopping becomes unaffordable and daily commutes to work become unaffordable. Actually, the debate should deal with the EU strategy on how to deal with this crisis, but here only buzzwords fell, I don't see any strategy. Worse still, the so-called parties of the center are arguing on the open stage about who works more with the extreme right. This inaction and your cooperation with the right and this open dispute only lead to the extreme right becoming stronger and stronger in Europe. Instead of taking measures that limit the energy price shock and support people in their daily lives, the Commission remains idle, once again, Ms von der Leyen. And this is especially pleasing to the big oil companies, which are really cashing out in this crisis, which have already raised prices before the first bombs have fallen and the Strait of Hormuz has been closed. That is why these obscene extra profits that energy companies make on the backs of the working population must be siphoned off. This excess profit tax deprives the corporations of the incentive to call their lunar prices. And it needs a Europe-wide energy price cap at the petrol station. Stable prices instead of price explosions, so that people can afford their lives, the economy has planning security and European jobs are protected. It has already been said: This is not our war – the US and Israel started it. Trump and Netanyahu are again and again breaking international law with fatal consequences for Europe. Now is the time for Europe to free itself from this insane autocrat in the White House. The mullahs regime has to go – no doubt about it. The oppression in the country, especially of women, the murder of thousands of people and the execution of peaceful demonstrators make no other conclusion possible. But regime‑change ‑Wars cost the lives of innocents. Your task, Ms von der Leyen, must be to work for an immediate end to the wars in the Middle East – in Iran, Lebanon and Gaza. But you don't hear a single critical word about Trump and Netanyahu. Peace and freedom will only be shared in the Middle East.
