Presentation of the Fertilisers Action Plan (debate)
Madam President, while the degrowthists who sit in this House and have influenced the European Commission so much, our farmers need fertilisers to ensure our food security. We know the current crisis, it is very serious. The European Union bears a huge responsibility for the soaring price of fertilisers. We sanctioned Russian gas, we learned no lessons from the 2022 crisis, we did nothing to create a sovereign fertilizer production chain. And then, because of this religion of decarbonization, we have taxed, taxed and taxed. The famous CBAM. I would remind you that my group is the only one that did not vote for this. So when I hear some colleagues today criticizing the CBAM, I refer them to their vote some time ago. So thank you, Commissioner, for looking into this matter of fertilisers, but you are proposing measures. Our farmers told us this morning in Parliament, that will not be enough. They can't even currently buy their fertilizers for the next harvest. So we demand the immediate suspension of the CBAM on fertilizers. We urgently call for the re-creation of a sovereign fertilizer production sector and the development of the nuclear-based low-carbon hydrogen sector, in order to exit the natural gas imports, which we know well. Let us turn our backs on the ideologies of degrowth, let us regain power, let us help our farmers.
